The standard that I selected from the website was listed under grades 6-8. The standard is "standard 1: communication and collaboration", specifically the benchmark code "SC.68.CS-CC.1.1". What this states is that kids must demonstrate an ability to communicate appropriately through various online tools. What I think this means in my own words is teachers must be able to pass on knowledge of how to use online sites that involve communication to their students. This can be done in a few ways such as tutorials, attempting to use it, and hands on learning. I do feel like I am prepared to implement this standard based on my current skill set. The reason I say this is because of how many online tools I have used and am familiar with. Over the course of my college career I have used a wide variety of online tools that I never even heard of before and became comfortable with all of them, so yes I feel that I am ready to implement this standard.
The grade that my resource is from is 6th grade and it is for mathematics. This resource is a video explaining areas of triangles and missing dimensions. It does this by breaking down each section such as what you will learn to what you already know and includes practice questions. I would use this resource in my class because it does a very good job at breaking down the information, especially for the specific audience which is 6th graders. I also would use it because of the visuals in the video. I think that some students especially in 6th grade have a hard time paying attention to certain things, but videos with images and illustrations tend to grasp kids attention more.
It is important for teachers to be proficient internet searchers. The reason being the internet can be used for access to free materials that can help students and teachers in the classroom. It is important to understand how to filter the search engine because you want to know what can be shared or used without wrongfully using someone else content. By having access to books, websites, etc., teachers can provide a world of knowledge for their students. I think a skill that was introduced to me this week that I will use the most is the advanced search feature on google. I think that I will use this the most because of how often I use google and sometimes the thing I am looking for does not come up. The advanced search on google helps eliminate some options making it easier to find specifically what I am looking for. There is not any internet searching skills that I often used before this weeks material.
